When confronting complex acoustic phenomena, it may be necessary to examine the frequency range in greater detail, so it can be split into bands.
This subdivision is carried out through the use of filters with a bandwidth of one octave or one-third of an octave, and which allow all sound waves outside the selected band to be eluded.
The resulting analysis is what is commonly called frequency analysis.
