A sound level meter is a portable instrument for measuring sound, or more precisely, sound pressure levels. The sound waves produced by a given source on the sound level meter’s microphone are translated and converted into an electrical signal.
As the instrument reacts in a similar way to the human ear, it is of fundamental importance in all those fields of application where compliance with safe sound levels is required. For example, the monitoring of noise pollution levels in cities, the assessment and monitoring of environmental noise, safety in the workplace with the consequent identification of worker protection devices as well as the control of production processes, soundproofing and acoustic remediation, building, construction or architectural acoustics.
